SHAKING THE SIX DEMON BAG: Six Extremely General Questions With Jonathan Green

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT’S YOUR DEAL?

Hi, my name’s Jonathan Green and I am a novelist and freelance writer. I’m especially known for my Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, my Black Library novels and short stories, and the steampunk universe of PaxBritannia (my own creation) featuring the adventures of the dandy adventurer and agent of the crown, Ulysses Quicksilver.

I write all sorts of other stuff too, including tie-in fiction and non-fiction for Doctor Who, Star Wars The Clone Wars and Moshi Monsters, gamebook apps such as Temple of the Spider God (published by Tin Man Games), and lots of short stories for various anthologies (small and big press). You’ll occasionally find me in the pages of SFX magazine, and its associated titles, too.

WHAT’S YOUR CURRENT PROJECT?

At present I’m writing an adventure gamebook, set within Games Workshop’s Warhammer world, called Shadows over Sylvania. In it you take on the role of a vampire in the years following a war in which the vampire lord Vlad von Carstein took on the might of the Empire, and lost. The resulting power vacuum has opened the way for another to claim Vlad’s mantle so during the course of the adventure, as well as fighting against the Empire you also get to battle other vampires and their undead minions.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES?

Probably too many to list, but I’ll have a go: Terry Pratchett; Dan Abett; Ellis Peters; Tim Powers; folklore, myth and legend; innumerable movies; fantasy artwork, especially the insane pen and ink work of Ian Miller, or the precise, photo-realistic work of Martin McKenna ; comics; Fighting Fantasy gamebooks; history, particularly medieval history; the literature and achievements of the Victorian era… Will that do for now?

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOUR STUFF?

In bookshops, online, and very easily via my website at www.JonathanGreenAuthor.com.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?

Online at www.JonathanGreenAuthor.com and on Twitter @jonathangreen.

INDULGE IN SOME SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION-WHAT SHOULD WE BE BUYING OR READING OR WATCHING OR LISTENING TO WITH YOUR NAME ON IT?

Part 2 of my eighth Ulysses Quicksilver adventure Time’s Arrow is out now, if you have an eReader. Download the story (entitled Black Swan), enjoy it, and then vote for how you would like the story to conclude.

Coming out in July is my first Warhammer 40,000 Path to Victory gamebook called Herald of Oblivion. If you’re a fan of 40K, Space Marines, alien gribbliness, or just rollicking, hardcore, shooty-death-kill sci-fi adventure, then this one’s for you!

And one for the kids… Look out for the first of my Moshi Monsters titles, that’s coming out this September, called The Night Before Twistmas.
