Tuesday for 25 (Also the First Contest of 2012)

Interesting post here by the ever-irascible Chuck Wendig, regarding '25 Things Writers Should Stop Doing'. I happen to agree with most (well, all) of those points; but then, they're all pretty common-sense sort of things, aren't they? Granted, that's probably why they need to be said. Writers tend to be pie-eyed at the best of times, so a bit of common sense never hurts.

I will say I'm a big fan of diversification (that would be number 16 on the list, for reference...). Write wide or risk falling into a rut. If you don't stretch those literary muscles every once in a while, you'll get a cramp right out of the gate, or something to that effect. That doesn't mean you can't indulge in your favourite genre or resume a relationship with favourite characters, but you probably shouldn't indulge in rabbit to the exclusion of the peas and carrots.

Of course, having said that, I should probably follow my own advice. I'm thinking Regency romance novel. There'll be periwigs and stockings everywhere.

In other news, Friday will see the first of those micro-interviews I was talking about earlier. I'd love to do one a week, but that'll depend on how many folks take me up on the offer. But more on that later. Today is for pointing out that Knight of the Blazing Sun will be out in two short months. Which means you've only got eight weeks to pre-order your copy. Crunch-time.

So, in the interest of drumming up some pre-orders, here's the deal: if you pre-order (or have already pre-ordered) the book send me some form of official notification that you have done so (i.e. forward the confirmation e-mail from whoever you pre-ordered it from) and you will be entered into a random drawing to win a physical copy of either Black Library's Age of Legend or Miskatonic River Press' Horror for the Holidays.

So, to sum up, pre-order Knight of the Blazing Sun and enter a drawing for one of the two kick-ass anthologies named above. Easy-peasy. I mean, you were going to pre-order it anyway, right?
