SOPAdope, the SOPAning

So, I was planning on talking about other things today, like how there's an extract of Knight of the Blazing Sun up on the BL website, or how there's a preview of my short story, "Eliza" up at the Lovecraft eZine site. Instead, I'm going to talk about SOPA. Because I find bandwagons to occasionally be fun things to hitch a ride on, depending on the band, the wagon and the relationship of either to me.

Feel free to skip right over this post, though.

So, here's SOPA and it's annoying little brother, PIPA. I don't like them. A lot of folks don't like them. EDIT: Folks like John Scalzi, for instance, and Chuck Wendig. Seriously, they say it better than I could.

As a dude whose first novel (which isn't even out yet!) is already available on a number of file sharing sites thanks to some ever-so generous black market file merchants, I can say that, at the moment, I could give two craps about internet piracy.

Stealing my potential money is merely annoying and disheartening. It's when you start stealing my actual money, right out of my wallet, that I get stabby. To me, SOPA is a bit like swatting a hornet with a high-calibre handgun...you'll probably miss the hornet and hit some poor schmuck by accident. It's not the most efficient means of doing the deed in my opinion, is what I'm saying.

Shameless self promotion will resume tomorrow.
